“I believe meaningful change begins with genuine human connection. I bring a warm, empathetic, and down-to-earth approach to therapy, creating a safe and supportive space where you can feel comfortable being your authentic self. I view therapy as a collaborative process, tailoring our work to your unique needs while balancing clinical expertise with humor to keep the space both supportive and human—even during deeper, more challenging work.”
Michelle Newton, MA, LMFT, PMH-C
Perinatal, Couples & Reproductive Mental Health Therapist
Michelle is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in supporting individuals and couples through perinatal, reproductive, and relationship transitions. Her work is grounded in the belief that therapy should feel both deeply supportive and genuinely human, especially during seasons that can feel overwhelming, uncertain, or isolating.
With over a decade of experience across reproductive medicine, community mental health, and outpatient settings, Michelle brings both clinical depth and real-world insight to her work. Prior to becoming a therapist, she worked extensively in reproductive healthcare, coordinating care for individuals and couples navigating fertility treatment. This experience continues to inform her nuanced understanding of infertility, pregnancy, and postpartum experiences.
Michelle works primarily with adults and couples navigating life transitions, anxiety, and the emotional complexities of trying to conceive, pregnancy, and postpartum. She is especially passionate about supporting individuals and partners through infertility and reproductive challenges, helping them feel more grounded, connected, and supported in the process.
Her approach is collaborative, structured, and thoughtfully tailored. She draws from evidence-based modalities including CBT, DBT, EFT, and Gottman Method. She balances insight-oriented work with practical skill-building, helping clients strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Michelle earned her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in couples work, graduating with distinction. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Gender and Women’s Studies. Her academic training reflects a strong foundation in relational dynamics, identity development, and systems-based care.
She is certified in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International and is an active member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the New Jersey Association of Marriage & Family Therapy as well as the American Association of Marriage & Family Therapy. Her work reflects a deep commitment to ongoing learning, clinical excellence, and meaningful, connected care.
My style.
Warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth, with a balance of clinical expertise and authenticity
My approach is grounded in a systemic perspective, meaning I look beyond symptoms to better understand the many experiences, relationships, and patterns that shape your life. Together, we’ll explore not only what you’re going through, but also the broader context surrounding it, allowing our work to feel personalized, thoughtful, and effective.
I have a special passion for reproductive and perinatal mental health. I work with individuals and couples navigating infertility, pregnancy and postpartum transitions, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, pregnancy loss, and birth trauma. These experiences can feel incredibly overwhelming and isolating, and I feel honored to support clients through them with compassion, understanding, and specialized care.
Clients often describe me as kind, genuine, supportive, and easy to connect with. I see my role as helping you better understand yourself while also ensuring you feel heard and supported. Together, we’ll work toward building resilience and feeling more grounded as you navigate life’s challenges.
If you’re looking for a space that feels warm, supportive, and human, with room for both depth and lightness, I’d be honored to be a part of your journey.
